Trained at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the Mod’Art school in Paris and the Sofía Cenzano centre in Lima, since her beginnings Ana Teresa Barboza has been working with thread, sewing, fabric and embroidery, activities associated with the feminine sphere and the home which her grandmother first taught her. Barboza began approaching the human body, specifically the representation of her own body, and later interpreted her relationship with others by introducing animals. In recent years, she has primarily reflected on nature, with a particular emphasis on the similarities between the processes of weaving and embroidery and the structures created by nature.
In 2006, she won the Passport award for an Artist from the French Embassy in Peru, which enabled her to further her training in Paris, and in 2010 she won First Prize from the Central Reserve Bank. She has participated in artist residency programmes in the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2014) and the Utopiana-Genève of Geneva (2010), as well as in different collectives in Lima, New York, La Paz, Barcelona, Houston and Mar del Plata.
