PRAYER VII
TECHNICAL DATA
Author: Miguel Ángel Campano (Madrid, 1948–Cercedilla, Madrid, 2018)
Title: Prayer VII
Year: 1997
Technique: oil on canvas
Size: 250 x 260 cm
Series: Prayer
This oversized work is the last in the Prayer series (1995–1997) that Miguel Ángel Campano started after his first few journeys to India and the death of his father, and they are thus related to this period of profound reflection on life and death. Just like other works in this series, it shows the process of geometrization and streamlining that his paintings underwent as a result of this trip. It combines a series of white rectangles and black pointed ovals rhythmically distributed in the space and on the unprimed canvas. Their ornamental layout has been related to Indian mandalas and rhythms, as well as with the repetitive sequences of the prayers to which the title refers.
It was acquired by the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson along with two other works by the same artist at the stand of the Galería Juana de Aizpuru during the ARCO 2020 fair.
