Organised to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the author’s death, the exhibition «Luis Fernández» features a selection of around one hundred and fifty works from different periods in his career. Luis Fernández (Oviedo, 1900–Paris, 1973) was a pioneer of geometric abstraction at the end of the 1920s, cultivated synthesis art in the early 1930s, frequented surrealism and Picassism between 1936 and 1944, and embraced a post-cubist style from 1944 to 1952 before going on to develop a personal style inspired by a quest for the essential and the absolute.
Led by the curator Alfonso Palacio, director of the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias, and involving different experts, the lecture series will examine diverse aspects of Fernández’s work.
