The FMCMP Morasverdes Centre is located in a new-build construction.
Carried out by the architect Pelayo Rubiera Sánchez in collaboration with the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson, the building project (2016–2023) adopts the following premises:
- Maximum respect for the environment by integrating the building into the natural surroundings. This unification is sought both outside and inside through abundant large windows that afford stunning views of the Sierra de Francia mountains.
- Use of top-quality materials and finishes, linked in particular to the industrial development of the Corporación Masaveu. Exposed concrete and different types of tropical wood, certified as having been harvested sustainably, are the main external finishes. Inside, the predominant material is locally-sourced wood, such as chestnut, typically found in the Salamanca meadowlands.
- The application of a contemporary formal language and functional criteria throughout the building to cede all protagonism to the materials.
- Spaces specially adapted to fulfil the Foundation’s purposes.
With a surface area of approximately 2,000 square metres, the Centre is spread across two independent rectangular floors. The ground floor comprises the exhibition hall and spaces for internal use, while the top floor accommodates a youth hostel, assembly hall and catering area (dining room and cafeteria). A large outdoor plaza is given over to terraces, multipurpose areas and services.
