THE COLLECTION OF THE MUSEU DE BELLES ARTS, VALENCIA:
BETWEEN BOSCH AND SOROLLA

FMCMP MADRID CENTRE
28 FEBRUARY–14 JULY 2024

Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson and the Museu de Belles Arts, Valencia, presents The Collection of the Museu de Belles Arts, Valencia: Between Bosch and Sorolla, an exhibition featuring more than one hundred masterpieces from the Valencian museum’s collection that will be on display at FMCMP MADRID CENTRE from 28 February to 14 July 2024.

For the first time outside the Fine Arts Museum of Valencia, this exhibition allows visitors to see a selection of the most significant pieces from its collection from the Middle Ages to the contemporary world. Curated by Pablo González Tornel, director of the Museu de Belles Arts and the leading authority on its collection, the exhibition includes works by Gherardo Starnina, Joan Reixach, Joan de Joanes, Hieronymus Bosch, Marteen de Vos, Vicente Macip, Jusepe de Ribera, Rubens, the Ribalta and Benlliure families, Ignacio Pinazo, Muñoz Degraín, Sorolla and other artists.

Divided into nine sections, the exhibition starts in the 15th century, when Valencia began to become an important active centre of the Crown of Aragon, and takes the visitor on a historical, artistic and social journey that concludes in the first decades of the 20th century and the modern era.

The Collection of the Museu de Belles Arts, Valencia: Between Bosch and Sorolla will publicise the heritage preserved by one of our country's greatest fine art museums outside the region of Valencia, enriching the capital’s remarkable programme of cultural events and proving that a public-private partnership can make the arts more accessible to all of society.

On the occasion of the exhibition, a catalogue has been published which includes, in addition to texts signed by Pablo González Tornel, essays by Matilde Miquel Juan, Jesús F. Pascual Molina, Ignacio Cano Rivero and Ester Alba Pagán, who offer new and enriching insights into the collection. This exhibition has an extensive programme of guided tours and a series of conferences directed by Pablo González Tornel, with the participation of the specialists who have collaborated on the catalogue.
