Third lecture in the series on the exhibition The Collection of the Museu de Belles Arts, Valencia: Between Bosch and Sorolla at the FMCMP Madrid Centre.

Between the late 15th and early 16th centuries, Valencia was home to artists connected to the Flemish tradition and others from Italy, as well as a community of Nordic artists. The city also enjoyed a thriving art trade with the Flemish north and Italian south. Jesús Pascual Molina, senior lecturer and academic secretary of the Art History Department at the Universidad de Valladolid, examines the specific development of the Renaissance in Spain through the works in the art collection of the Museu de Belles Arts, Valencia.

BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS

Jesús F. Pascual Molina is a senior lecturer in the Art History Department at the Universidad de Valladolid, where he also occupies the position of academic secretary. A member of the Art, Power and Society in the Early Modern Era research group recognised by the Universidad de Valladolid and the Consolidated Research Unit of the Regional Government of Castile-León, he specialises in the relationships between art and power, collecting and courtly ceremonies. On these themes he has published several works and taken part in different research projects, the latest (of which he is joint lead researcher) a comparative study of the art patronage undertaken by women and men between the 15th and 16th centuries. He is also secretary of the magazine BSAA arte, one of the oldest art history publications in Spain.

All lectures take place at 6.30 pm in the María Cristina Masaveu Auditorium.
