A work produced to mark the 75th anniversary of the creation of UNICEF. It depicts, through childlike language and simple strokes, the actress Audrey Hepburn, one of the agency’s first ambassadors to the United Nations, who worked hard to defend children’s rights around the world.
The image sums up UNICEF’s work perfectly. Thus, the education of underprivileged children is symbolically represented through the book carried by the protagonist, who in this painting becomes an occasional teacher and educator for the cause. All this rests on a strong message: Breakfast with the Real Diamonds, a nod to the actress’s most acclaimed film, only this time the real diamonds are the children.
The painting is reminiscent, in its synthetic style and use of primary colours, of drawings made by schoolchildren.
