Like trompe-l’oeil, the Espelhos (Mirrors) series by Ding Musa plays with the spectator’s complicity through geometry, light and perception, linking up with a kind of optical art reinterpreted through photography. This work, acquired for the FMCMP Collection in February 2016 at the stand of the Madrid-based Ponce+Robles gallery at the International Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid (ARCO), seeks to question the functionality of images and their possibilities of representation by generating fictitious volumes that create a two-fold view of the surface represented, in this case a simple household wall made of elements that repeat through elementary units. The Brazilian artist thereby questions the true nature of the material and the visual qualities of the image captured.
