The Masaveu Collection, assembled through the interest in collecting that spanned several generations of this family of business leaders, is one of the most important collections in Spain in terms of its quality and quantity. With the opening of its new branch in Madrid, the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson is presenting the exhibition Masaveu Collection: 19th-century Spanish painting, from Goya to modernism, featuring a selection of 125 works from one of the most interesting thematic nuclei in its extensive, varied collections: 19th-century Spanish painting.
As part of its educational activities, the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson has created this programme with the main goal of meeting the needs of students, from preschool to baccalaureate, with a range of different kinds of tours.
ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE BY RESERVATION ONLY
PRESCHOOL AND PRIMARY SCHOOL TOUR-WORKSHOP
Light and colour in the Masaveu Collection from the 19th century
This activity is targeted at preschool and primary school students. It offers a gallery tour and a creative activity in the workshop space. The common thread is the different ways painters depict reality, its lights and shadows, and its landscapes, portraits or scenes of everyday life through the use of colour. Through works by great masters like Goya, Sorolla and Ramón Casas and a methodology associated with play and group dynamics, we try to place the children at the centre of learning.
Workshop-tours last approximately 90 minutes and are led by cultural mediators.
INTERACTIVE TOUR FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL AND BACCALAUREATE
Taste and fashion in the Masaveu Collection from the 19th century
This activity is targeted at secondary school and baccalaureate students. It encourages student participation through individual observation and artistic experience. By analysing the works of some of the most prominent 19th-century Spanish painters like Sorolla, Federico de Madrazo, Julio Romero de Torres, Zuloaga and Anglada Camarasa, the students learn both the history of painting from this period and different aspects of the society of that time, especially how the image of women has evolved.
Guided tours last approximately 90 minutes and are led by cultural mediators.
BACCALAUREATE TOUR
Masaveu Collection: 19th-century Spanish painting, from Goya to modernism
Just for baccalaureate students, we are offering a chronological tour of 19th-century Spanish painting based on the Masaveu Collection to allow them to discover painting step-by-step, from Goya to modernism.
Guided tours last approximately 70 minutes and are led by cultural mediators.
