This set of four canvases, corresponding to the four moments of the day (morning, afternoon, evening, afternoon-night and night) was part of the artist’s first solo exhibition in Spain, entitled Towards the Clouds and held at Swinton Gallery (Madrid, January-March 2021), where it was acquired by the Foundation.
The title of the show is taken from an orphic hymn that celebrates humanity’s interdependence with Mother Earth. As for the abstract forms of this composition, organic and automatic, they maintain the reminiscences of Arp and are for the artist almost meditative tools, related to orphism. To define them, he mainly uses black as a resource which, for 108, is the color that, with its symbolic and visual impact, best expresses the duality of the artist’s works, the fullness as well as the emptiness. However, in this phase he combines it with different colors, such as red or purple, which complement the reading of the blacks.
