1st EDITION OF MIRADAS DE ASTURIAS. ALBERTO GARCÍA-ALIX, PATRIA QUERIDA
MARIA CRISTINA MASAVEU PETERSON FOUNDATION PROJECT
With absolute respect for the creative freedom of the photographer Alberto García-Alix, creation of a fund of unpublished photographs about Asturias and its people, made up by the most personal and unique vision of prestigious photographers.
In this first edition, Alberto García-Alix becomes the first photographer invited by the Foundation. His perspective, BELOVED HOMELAND merges with the environment through industrial landscapes, challenging architectures, abstract natures and exceptional portraits.
This exhibition is a selection of the best images taken in his wanderings. A poetic and intense look, between reality and allegory, which takes us into a narration led by Alberto García-Alix’s eyes. His ability to humanize what he photographs makes possible a unique, rich and diverse look. Nature becomes savage and multiform through grey splotches, mysterious and profound. One can see in the looks of his characters the history of their people. Defiant architectures trace diagonals that cross over the space, lines of tension, of emotion.
García-Alix’s journey is always interior, as he says a “monologue” with which he asks himself and us about the reach of the look. He opens new possibilities further than reality, where imagination can change things, transform them, through his eyes. If we peep out through his retina, we will find the remembrance of what he saw: glare, echoes, its own universal world. His and everyone’s, a dear home town.
