TECHNICAL DATA

Author: María Luisa Fernández (Villarejo de Órbigo, León, 1955)
Tittle: Untitled
Year: 1984
Technique: burnt wood, pigment and oil
Size: 240 x 300 x 5 cm
Series: Blemishes

This piece belongs to the series Máculas (Blemishes) made by the artist between 1984 and 1985. It was acquired by the Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson at the Galería Maisterravalbuena stand at the 2020 ARCO fair.

The series is based on the artist’s impression of the nature in Tierra de Campos, in Palencia, which is known for its endless plains, which she got on the frequent trips she made there in her youth. In this sense, these exposed, burnt wood panels covered with a kind of “oil skin”, in the artist’s words, seem to try to transfer the vibration from the nature depicted in these Castilian landscapes to the art itself.
