This photograph was acquired by the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation at the 2013 International Contemporary Art Fair (ARCO) in Madrid, and was part of the works created slightly earlier by Vicente Tirado del Olmo, who was later nominated Revelation Artist of the Year by the RAC Awards. In this image from the “Backgrounds” series, pure nature confronts scenarios from advertising campaigns and media events.
The ensemble shown established a scenic laboratory with two objectives: on the one hand, to instil a reflection on the meaning and function of these natural scenarios with appropriate media to artistically illustrate these reflections; and, on the other hand, instil a reflection on the meaning and function of these scenarios. A new way of approaching the sublime, providing the audience with slogans, images taken from the Internet and other documents to interpret the project, balancing visual beauty with conceptual discourse.
