FMCMP COLLECTION

The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, the heir to the Masaveu family’s tradition of collecting and patronage, has its own art collection which particularly revolves around contemporary art. It includes pieces by both celebrated and emerging artists. The bulk of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation is comprised of its photography collection, but it also includes paintings and sculptures.

This collection, which grows every year, is the outcome of the Foundation’s original mission to support the Spanish art circuit and the commitment to art which has characterised the Masaveu family for generations. The collection has been shaped via acquisitions and the addition of pieces resulting from patronage, in which prestigious artists create unique works of art with complete freedom, which then become part of this body of work.

The MCMPF collection has recently expanded its horizons towards other artistic periods, and it is enlarging its collections with works by primarily Spanish painters from the 19th century, as well as by both Spanish and international painters from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The recovery of the Spanish artistic heritage is one of the founding goals of this institution. This is why many of the pieces in the collection are purchased on the international market, thus contributing to recovering Spain’s cultural heritage abroad.

María Cristina Masaveu Peterson was a woman of her time, open to modernity, with a liberal spirit; she was sensitive, generous and committed to many social causes, with a penetrating emotional intelligence and deep convictions. She lived her entire life discreetly, responding to her urges and passions in a genuine, natural way. The MCMPF Collection continues to grow in honour of those principles.
